A daily prayer from the New England Conference
Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today's Prayer
Psalm 139
There hangs a patchwork quilt in the corner of my room.
It is a crazy quilt, with many shapes and colors. Each piece is there for a reason,
But without the intricate stitching,
The crazy quilt would fall apart.
The stitching seems invisible at first.
Turn your head a bit, do you see the embroidery?
Who is stitching the patchwork quilt of our lives?
God, the Eternal Quilter,
who keeps all our pieces of the patchwork quilt together
is there, stitching us together with agape love. Even before our patchwork quilt was started, God placed each piece together with a purpose.
Before our mother knew us,
God sewed us together piece by piece.
Even when the pieces of our patchwork quilt come together
In the most haphazard of ways,
You, O God, know the placement of each.
Like the patchwork quilt,
We are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Thank you, Master Quilter,
for being the stitching in our quilt.
You hold all the chaotic pieces of our lives together,
Your love binds us together.
Amen.
