John 19:26{27}
When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” {and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.}
Jesus lets Mary know that she will be taken care of by John after his own death. Being a mother myself, I am sure that is not what she was worrying about, however. Losing a child, young or older, must be excruciating. And having to watch Jesus go through this entire process, watching it unfold…impossible. I am thinking she was more likely imagining ways to get herself up on that cross in his place. But Jesus knew what would be ahead for his mother, alone after his death. And he was taking care of her.
Holy Lord, you take care of each and every one of us, anticipating our needs. Jesus lived this out, to the very end. I am forever grateful. Amen

John 19:26
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!”
I also included verse 27. Despite His excruciating physical agony, Jesus was concerned about the welfare of His mother and the pain she was and would continue to experience. With His thoughts on Mary’s future security and protection, Jesus entrusted her into the care of John, His beloved disciple. And from that hour John took her into his own home. In this verse Jesus is making sure his earthly mother is cared for after His death. The first love you ever know often comes from your mother and…
John 19-26
Jesus' final moments must have been so painful, but despite that, his final moments brought worry about his mother and a solution. Mary's pain was also unimaginable. What mother could possibly emotionally survive witnessing the slow, horrible death of her son. Did she remember Simeon's statement about a sword piercing her heart/soul? I'm sure she was not in the least worried about herself. I was once part of a Bible play called, "The Longest Night." Mary is one of the players. In it, she and the others recall all that has happened. I would love to do this play for Maundy Thursday. It brings the emotions of the event to life.

John 19:26{27}
Lucado refers to the maternal-child bond as a great mystery. I could not have begun to appreciate the depth of that mystery without seeing it unfold in front of my eyes over the last 30 years. It is a bond like no other and has been so throughout human history despite any absurd cultural trend that may be fashionable at any given time. Only Jesus, the perfect God-Man could do what He did that day on Calvary, but it remains the aspirational standard for all with regard to honoring their mother. I did not fully understand all the choices my own mother made n the winter of her life, but tried to honor them as best as I…
