A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis
During these difficult days, members of the Many Waters District of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today’s prayer : Psalm 99 (CEB)
1The Lord rules— the nations shake! He sits enthroned on the winged heavenly creatures— the earth quakes! 2 The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. 3 Let them thank your great and awesome name. He is holy! 4 Strong king who loves justice, you are the one who established what is fair. You worked justice and righteousness in Jacob. 5 Magnify the Lord, our God! Bow low at his footstool! He is holy! 6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel too among those who called on his name. They cried out to the Lord, and he himself answered them— 7 he spoke to them from a pillar of cloud. They kept the laws and the rules God gave to them. 8 Lord our God, you answered them. To them you were a God who forgives but also the one who avenged their wrong deeds. 9 Magnify the Lord our God! Bow low at his holy mountain because the Lord our God is holy! Prayer: Gracious and Loving God, as Moses and Aaron cried out during a period of wilderness and wandering, you showered your grace and mercy upon your people, establishing what is honest and fair, compassionate and merciful.
Today we lift to you a world that also seems devoid of justice and righteousness, love and kindness. Help us to remember and to witness to others that you and you alone are Lord and Ruler of your people, the one who provides order and direction for our lives when our world is reeling from illness, the worshiping of false idols, and a lack of compassion for our neighbor.
We ask all this in humble service, with praise and thanksgiving for your endless mercy and grace. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. Rev. Sharon Lovejoy, Brunswick UMC, Brunswick, ME
