A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis
During these difficult days, members of the Many Waters District of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today’s prayer
O God, who is our Center, the Source of our being, the One true and living God, we come before you to find moments of peace in the midst of anxious days. Showing no partiality, you proclaim each one of us your children as you call us by name - each and every one of us, God, with no exclusions.
But even as we rest in the comfort of your love, we hear your call to share that love with others - with our brothers and sisters close to home and those far away, with those whose theology and politics and life choices we understand and with those we don’t. So open us to the unpredictability of your Spirit as it weaves its way within us, we pray.
Keep our minds attentive to creative possibilities to offer the peace that Christ alone bestows. Attune our hearts to opportunities to be a blessing that we may share your abundant mercy and amazing grace in the lives of those longing to know that they matter.
Guide us, we pray to you, O God who is our Center, amidst the perplexities of this current time and be our direction and our strength. Help us to let go of all that keeps us from you as you center us in your forever love.
All this we pray in the name of Jesus, our Hope and our Peace. Amen. Rev. Elizabeth J. Bachelder Smith, Lisbon United Methodist Church (Lisbon Falls, ME)
