A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis
During these difficult days, Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar, members of the Extended Cabinet and United Methodists across New England are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today’s prayer
O Holy One of God, We praise you for your life and ministry, Jesus of Nazareth. Your teaching with authority is like no other; You are our constent companion and Healer of all. This morning we confess to you, O God, We are struggling in the midst of a relentless pandemic; injustice, violence, systemic racism, job-loss, broken relationships, the loss of our loved ones, financial struggles, addiction, loneliness and other hardships. Yet during these turbulent times, we fail to trust your promising words or see your helping hands reaching out to us, We doubt and shout out to you like the man with an unclean spirit in the synagogue in Capernaum, “What business do you have with us, Jesus of Nazareth?” “Have you come to destroy us?” Help us hear your firm message — “Be quiet!” So that … We may find you in the quiet, We may believe all glory, majesty, dominion, power, and authority belong to you, We may experience healing, reconciliation, unity, justice, and peace through you, We may encounter the radical shift in us from doubting to living life with awe and amazement. “Glorious and majestic are [your] deeds, and [your] righteousness endures forever!” (Psalm 111:3 NIV)
