A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis
During these difficult days, Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, is sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today’s prayer
Dear God, In this time of tremendous loss, pain, and illness, we ask that your healing Spirit can be upon us. Just as Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law and cast out illnesses, can our church today be a vessel of your love and healing spirit among your people. The level death and plague is so great that we alone cannot bear. We ask that your Spirit be upon us, as the church, to be a balm that allows God’s grace to flow freely —healing hearts and minds. We pray for a special protection our health care workers, our front-line workers, and our essential workers that have sacrificed so much. May you bless them and keep them from harm’s way. And let the church come out of our places of worship, just as Jesus, and go out to our neighboring towns, to proclaim the message and cast out demons. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
