A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, September 20

Matthew 19:26

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Mark 10:27

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

Luke 18:27

Jesus replied, "What is impossible with man is possible with God."

There is no specific miracle in the verses preceding this statement from Jesus. But we hear a strong message of the power of God to make absolutely anything come to pass. Jesus points out that it is very difficult for people who have amassed a lot of wealth to turn it all over to God and acknowledge His control over all things. But for each and everyone there is a lesson in Jesus' words: all things are possible with God.

Holy Lord, with you, I can do anything you ask. But I am human, and I need your help. Lead me, Lord. Amen

Matthew 19:26, Mark 10:27, and Luke 18:27

To paraphrase--With God, all things are possible.

All three of these verses come at the end of the story of the rich young man wanting to know how to inherit eternal life. He left disappointed with Jesus' answer and even the disciples questioned him about just who might meet that requirement. To me, these verses symbolize hope. We have the hope that God will make possible our eternal life after our worldly death. Hope is so important to us all and these verses say it three times--"with God, all things are possible."

Prayer: Gracious God, you've reminded us three times that you wil make possible what we think of as impossible. Thank you…

Luke 18:27

But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”

Matthew 19:26

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Mark 10:27

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”

The one word that sticks out for me in these verses is impossible, meaning not able to occur, exist or be done. God knows none of these words. He is a miracle in himself. God’s power has no limit and no boundaries…when God healed people, helped Abraham,David,Daniel,Isaac and many many more what makes me…

Matthew 19:26

Mark 10:27

Luke 18:27

All three synoptic Gospels writers found this utterance by Jesus important enough to include in their account. The implications are clear as day. God is God and we are not. If we accept that God is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, there is no logical reason God could not work outside the bounds or understanding of that created universe. While human beings are bound by the laws of nature, that nature belongs to and can be shaped and even altered by its Creator. God’s will supersedes nature, but eyes that are spiritually blind refuse to see the miracles this can bring to pass.

Prayer - Lord God, our faith tells us the…
