2 Peter 1:20-21

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

These verses reinforce the concept that we must always turn to God. When we don’t understand, when we do understand, when we can’t figure out what is right and when we know what is right but still don’t know what to do. I often hear people complain that they spend too much time “in their head.” When thinking about this scripture and what it can teach me, I am reminded that being in our own heads all of the time will not give us the answers or the direction we are seeking. God meets us in our hearts and our minds.

Holy Father, help me to know what is the right way. There is a lot in my head today, and I need you to help me. Guide my steps, Lord, and help me to say and do what is pleasing to you. Amen

2 Peter 1:20–21

The scripture reminds us that the Bible is not man’s word, but the word of God that was sent through the Holy Spirit. This is a concept that is particularly difficult for our secular friends to understand or accept. God has laid out his plan and he speaks to us through the Holy Spirit and not all is for us to understand. Once we accept this, our anxiety about so much will ease.

Dear Father, help me to continue to let go of questioning your plan and your will. Help me to step out in faith. Amen.

2Peter1:20-21

These verses are found in a section of my bible titled, "Paying Attention to Scripture." Peter is reminding us that all prophecy is God inspired and then sent to us through the human prophets. Are you not sure what to do? Not sure how to proceed? Go to your Bible to find the answers. As transformers, we are learning over and over again that the answers can be found here if we search for them.

Prayer: Gracious God, keep me from trying to solve issues on my own. Remind me to seek your word first. AMEN

Indecision

2 Peter 1:20-21

Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Peter wanted to urge his readers to take his message about Jesus seriously, as he says in (verse 19) you will do well to pay attention to  God’s message through me

The  Bible’s words express God’s thoughts, it is  God's Holy Spirit working through the prophets. , it's not something concocted in the human heart. It  is important that we study and  grasp what He wants us to understand as we interpret Scripture.…

2 Peter 1:20-21

Speaking prophetically can be risky and uncomfortable. The Holy Spirit may bring a message that is difficult to hear or pushes against the prevailing “common wisdom.” For the hearer, the difficulty may be worse. Is what is being heard truly from God? Even if someone claims to be speaking prophetically, discernment is required to sort out and identify that which is contrary to the ultimate arbiter of truth - God’s Word. Indecision can be resolved, but it takes work, prayer, reliance on Scripture and our own personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Prayer - Lord, these are confusing times, with voices and messages that seem to be constantly at odds. We are so divided that we become…
