John 4:13-14
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Jesus often spoke in a way that required the listener to stop and ponder- the deeper meaning needed to be sorted out. Here he is talking with the woman at the well, and she initially has no idea what he is talking about. Perhaps she thinks he is joking. “Well, give me some of that water so that I don’t need to keep coming out here in the heat!” But Jesus tells us that following him, learning and accepting his truths, will change our lives forever. We will no longer need all of the things we used to think were so important. Have I accepted this truth, or do I continue to seek reassurance outside of my faith? (eg, do I still worry about money? do I still imagine worst case scenarios? do I fret over things I have no control over?) Sometimes I continue to thirst even though I have been given water to drink.
Holy Lord, please help me to stay on track. You have given me all that I need. I can ask for no more. Amen

John 4:13-14
We thirst for knowledge, we thirst for truth. Truth is hard to come by in this world today. We are constantly bombarded by opinions that are put before us as truth, but the truth that the word of God provides this is the only truth we need to quench our thirst. The water we get from earthly sources will never fully quench our thirst, ever.
Heavenly Father, thank you for quenching my thirst. Guide me, comfort me, sustain me with Your word, the only water I will ever need. Amen
John 4:13-14
It took the woman a while, but when she finally understood that this man was talking about a spiritual thirst not a physical one, she jumped ahead and realized who he was! Then in a real leap of faith, she runs back to her village (where she knew people did not like her) and proceeds to become on of the first missionaries--she spread the message she had just heard and spoke about the man and many came to believe. How hard do we work to spread God's love to all around us? This woman could have had many excuses to be quiet. She was unafraid.

John 4:13-14
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I Imagine myself walking in the desert, overwhelmingly thirsty, I find water, I drink my fill, but eventually I will become just as thirsty again. Jesus is saying that the physical world can only offer temporary relief for our deepest needs. He offers something better– a connection to God that truly satisfies and lasts forever. That's what he means by living water., The wate…
John 4:13-14
“Everyone who drinks . . .” In our encounter with Jesus wherein we are offered living water, there are several choices we have. We can say, “Leave me alone, I don’t need any of Your water.” We can accept the water, but put it in a bottle “in case I need it later.” We can take the water and use it to make a pretty display, adding color, interesting pebbles and shells and perhaps a plant or two then show it off so others can see how clever we are. None of these satisfy any thirst we have, but likewise, none of these were choices offered by Jesus. He says we must drink. The Christian life is fueled…
