A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, October 6

Deuteronomy 31:24-28

verse 27: “For I know how rebellious and stiffnecked you are. If you have been rebellious against the Lord while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after I die!

These words are so true to human nature. What does it take to get obedience from us? Release from slavery? Pillars of fire? Parting seas? Food falling from the sky? If God were human, he would have been struggling with whether to just give up. But he didn’t. He made sure we have “proof” of His sovereignty. We are so fortunate to be living in these times. We have God’s Word in Jesus, and his written Word to lead us when we falter or question.

Father God, you have infinite patience with your people. I love you and thank you for that. I can trust you to be here with me always and forever, because you have promised. Amen

Deuteronomy 31: 27:28 For I know how rebellious and stubborn you are. Behold, even today while I am yet alive with you, you have been rebellious against the Lord. How much more after my death! Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears and call heaven and earth to witness against them.

Instead of thankful appreciation to God for all he had done for the Israelites, they still had rebellious hearts. And now over 2000 years later, I would say the same about our present world and how unappreciative we are for all God has done for us. Natural disasters, disease, famine, murder, drugs, abuse, racism, riots, destruction, all of these things…

Deuteronomy 31:27 - “Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officials, so that I may recite these words in their hearing and call heaven and earth to witness against them.”

October is Clergy Appreciation Month. Is there any doubt how difficult a pastor’s job is? Having people gathered to tell them they are sinners doesn’t result in getting invitations to all the best parties. On the other hand, the call and appointment to also tell the people the Good News that those same sins are forgiven through repentance and faith in Christ is a gift of immeasurable worth.

Prayer - Merciful God, thank You for the gift of Pastor Lee who loves and cares for each…
