Luke 7:11-17
verse 13: When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, ”Don’t cry.”
Jesus brought the widow’s son back to life- during the young man’s funeral procession! What I love the most about this is verse 13: “his heart went out to her and he said, ‘Don’t cry. ‘“ Jesus did not want the woman to suffer her loss any longer. “His heart went out to her.” His human heart. His divine heart. I forget that sometimes. God wants to heal us. He wants us to have faith and to ask for help, but even when we do not do these things, he does not take joy in our suffering. God is here for me to talk to, to lean on, and to ask for help. “Don’t cry.”
Heavenly Father, you are my protector and my healer. I can’t ever lose sight of this reality. I am so thankful for the chance to know you, and to live my life with you in my heart. Amen

Luke 7: 11-17
Verse 13 When the lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, don’t cry. Jesus traveled to Nain and there he met a funeral possession leaving the village. A widow’s only son had died leaving her helpless. The sorrow in our hearts at the death of a loved one is just as devastating. Jesus’s heart was full of compassion for the young widow. He wanted to reach out to her, hold her to his heart and make her life better. (isn’t this the exact same way we react when consoling loved ones.) As Jesus brings this young son back to life, Jesus will give us new life when we are down. The compassion …
Luke 7: 11-17
13 When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
This verse shows the compassionate side of Jesus. Not only did he tell the widow not to cry but immediately raise her son up without her asking him for help. Jesus is there for us all the time. I just need to remember this. When I experience a bump in the road I know that Jesus is molding me into the person I am meant to become. I don’t always need to ask for help. There are times when Jesus just sends the help I need.
Dearest Lord you are a wonderful God. You watch over me every day withou…
Luke 7:14 - “Then he came forward and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, ‘Young man, I say to you, rise!’”
We have read many healing stories over the last three weeks and there are just as many subtle differences. Are they significant? I do not claim to know, but I do notice them. In today’s story the person healed neither came nor was brought to Jesus. He and His entourage happened across the funeral procession as they approached town. The woman did not ask for a miracle. Jesus was moved to act out of compassion. Jesus did not touch the man. He touched only the bier that bore his body and spoke to him…
Luke 7:11-17 What is intriguing about this healing story is how different it is. No one asked for help. There is no mention of faith. We simply see the human side of Jesus. He understood the world this widow lived in. Her only support has died and an uncertain future lies ahead. We see his understanding and compassion for that situation. Maybe when I am too much in control and do not ask for help, it may come unasked, because He understands better than I what I need. Prayer: thank you Lord for your understanding and help even when we do not ask. Amen
2021-0309 Tuesday, Daily Devotion - Luke 7:16 (NIV)
16 They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.”
What I am trying to find in the Bible and my daily life is what God is doing. In today’s story of the widow's son, when the widow's son was revived people knew that it was God’s work and praised God in awe. When I recognize something God did in my life I praise God and lift up His name and make His work known to the people by witnessing. But I think something done by my ability will praise me and make me proud of…
