Ephesians 6:1-4
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother"- which is the first commandment with a promise- "so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
These verses make me wish I could have a conversation with my mom and dad about their faith. As I grow older, I am especially interested in knowing how their relationship(s) with God shaped their lives. Sadly, I don't remember many conversations about faith. Yet I know they were faithful Christians. I honored my parents by loving and respecting them. And I always felt loved and respected by them.
Lord, I am thankful for the family I was given. My parents were good role models, and I did honor them. They were good people because they knew you. I am sorry we didn't share our faith with each other more openly. Amen

Ephesians 6: one – four My mom and dad parented by example. They were hard-working, happy people. I always knew I was loved. I really can’t remember them ever being angry. As an only child in this wonderful household, I simply did my part when asked. The word obey was not part of our vocabulary. We had a large extended family of aunts and uncles and cousins. I was never really lonely – although I never wanted to only have one child, so maybe I was. I loved them, respected who they were, and today honor their memories. Prayer: gracious God thank you for the great beginning of family life you gave me. Amen

I was brought up to respect my family and others. it always felt like the right thing to do. We called the parents of our friends Mr. or Mrs. never by their first names. Our aunts and uncles were also Aunt Mary or Uncle Tom, etc. Even in adulthood I continued to call my aunts and uncle by that long ago teaching. Setting a good example costs nothing and I am grateful for my parents teaching these things to us.

I feel this verse is telling us to always be truthful, loving and honest with our children and they will follow our lead. The parent child relationship is so very important to the well being of society. The conduct of the parent should always be in good taste, so to act as an example for their children. God…
