A Daily devotion for Tuesday, August 27

1 Peter4:10

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

It is also by the grace of God, then, that we have each been given our talents (and our interests) which we have utilized and enjoyed through our lives. As a child, I never would have imagined myself playing the piano in the front of church WITH PEOPLE WATCHING AND LISTENING!! It made my hands shake just playing my lesson for my kindly, quiet and non-judgmental teacher. But God gives us the interest and the love, and we live our lives, hopefully keeping His grace in our hearts and minds, always thankful.

Holy Lord, I am thankful that you helped me to never give up. You put it in my heart to keep playing, and have provided ways for me to serve your kingdom. I know they seem like small ways, but they are not small if they serve you. Amen

Becky, transforming

I always felt that I had no special gift at all. I am fully aware that it is a graceful gift given by the Holy Spirit. My gift  is unique to just me and how I use it in serving others. If someone were to give me a gift at Christmas and I threw it aside…

1 Peter4:10

One of the exercises we had to do in seminary was to take inventory of the gifts and graces God has given us to better define our most fruitful role in serving the kingdom. Part of that exercise was completing a Myers-Briggs profile survey. This is a research-based tool and I thought the results would have been fairly predictable. Nevertheless, I and many of my classmates were surprised and puzzled at what was revealed about our personality traits. It is one thing to see such an analysis in your twenties, but quite a different matter to see it in one’s sixties. The point of the exercise was to live out 1Peter 4:10. Some days I feel like I…
