Psalm 4
verses 6b-8:
Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord.
You have filled my heart with greater joy
than when their grain and new wine abound.
I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
This psalm speaks to me right where I am, today. Still working on understanding prayer, these words from David encourage me. To think that all those (thousands) years ago, David called out to God just as I do today! David knew God heard him, and slept in peace because of it. David knew the joy of being in God’s presence. It is a greater joy than that of a bumper crop or plentiful wine. It is eternal safety and peace.
Psalm 138:3 When I called, you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted. Thank you, Lord❤️ Amen

Psalm 4 Verses 7 and 8. You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. In peace I will lie down and sleep for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe. When I first read this, I was struck by the word JOY, not just happiness joy, but fulfillment joy. I have all I need kind of joy. In verse 8, I sensed the calm it gives me at days end; the assurance of safety and peace. I then read todays devotion in the Upper Room. There, again, was Psalm 4:8. The family in the devotion used this verse to calm and settle everyone at the end of a busy day. Prayer: Gracious God, again you have g…
Psalm 4
8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.
Letting go and letting God take care of me. This is probably one of the most difficult things for me to do in this life. I trust in God, but there is always that part of me that wants to run the world. At night when I can’t sleep and I’m worried about the world I have to let God take over. This is easier said than done, but I am working on it. I attempt to let God run the world for a while and I attempt to relax. God is always there for me watching over me and…
2021-0413 Tuesday, Daily Devotion - Psalm 4:8
8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.
It is the only The LORD alone who makes me lie down, sleep, and dwell in safety. I keep finding that the Lord, my God is the only One who gives true peace, love, and rest. I want to find more ways of enjoy peace, love, and rest in Him all kinds of situation that I am.
Lord, thank you for letting me experience the peace, love, and rest You only can give. I hope I can enjoy them more and more and deeper and deeper. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Psalm 4:4 - “When you are disturbed, do not sin; ponder it on your beds, and be silent.”
Simple phrases like this lend authenticity to the psalms of David. He was as human as any of us and had his ups and downs. His honest and transparent prayers to God remain models for us today. Some translations use the word “angry,” but I think the NRSV ”disturbed” is more descriptive. It is when I am disturbed that I am most likely to lash out in a sinful manner. David’s advice is something I would do well to pray on and take to heart as a memory verse.
Prayer - Holy Spirit, guard my heart and mind from responding sinfully to…
