Colossians 4:3-5

And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.

Christians have not always put their best foot forward. If we put effort into being kind and loving to all we come in contact with, we might be able to turn around some of the negativity which continues to be heaped onto our faith. I am just as guilty as the next person—too often allowing my feelings to color my tone and my words in a negative way. The opportunities to be kind are endless. I pray to God today that the Holy Spirit be active and evident within me, and that I can remember to be kind and loving. Amen

Colossians 4:3-5

This verse is quoted very frequently in essays, articles and books about the persecuted church around the world. It is sad and astonishing that there are so many places where sharing Christ is illegal. Converts to Christianity are disowned by their families, cannot find work and can be imprisoned, beaten or killed with impunity. Simply owning a Bible in some of these countries can result in death. Part of my daily prayer routine is praying for Christians in these places so hostile to the message of Christ that God may open doors for them to share the Gospel. As I read their stories, it is humbling to learn how many do so, despite knowing it could mean imprisonment…
