A Daily Devotion for Thursday, December 28

Proverbs 11:24-25

One person gives freely, yet gains even more;

Another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

It seems easier to accept this advice in figurative terms than in literal ones. How does one gain from giving freely? How do we prosper from being generous? How are we refreshed when we refresh others? I believe this is a way we are blessed by God. When we are generous, we feel God's pleasure in our soul. This is how we prosper.

Holy Lord, you have taught me how to be generous by rewarding me: drawing me closer to you. Help me to see more opportunities and to have the courage to step out of my comfort zone. Amen

Proverbs 11:24-25

Again, these verses have nothing to do with money. There is so much more we can give and do for others that doesn’t involve money. Being a good Christian and behaving as God wants will not bring us monetary wealth, but should bring us love and the satisfaction of a job well done. As the last sentence says, generosity helps others and in turn helps ourselves.

Prayer: Gracious God, Help me to always be generous with my time, talents, and possessions. Amen

Proverbs 11:24-25

One man gives freely, yet gains even more. Another withholds what he should give, and only comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper and one who refreshes will himself be refreshed.

Any act of kindness can not go unnoticed by God. Generosity leads to prosperity.

If you meet any person in true need and give to him, God will repay you. But if you keep your money and assets to protect your financial situation, God will not protect you. The difference here is rather severe, but are we wise enough to believe it and obey it. If we have family members in need, if we do not support them , If we …

Proverbs 11:24-25 The gains and poverty of which Solomon speaks would seem to be those of one’s spirit. Freely giving of oneself bears intangible dividends that are felt in one’s heart rather than counted as material gain. We make the world a slightly more tolerable place when we make kindness and generosity a sort of currency and exchange it with others.

Prayer - Generous God, lead me to ways in which I can share of myself with others freely without expectation of return. Let me rest in the spiritual gain and prosperity that comes through generosity. Amen
