Romans 12: 9-13
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
These verses describe leading by setting a good example. Sometimes we just don’t think about how our behaviors and habits may be observed and emulated by others. We become leaders in the church by living and showing God’s love, and having that love at work in ourselves. This reminds me of the conversations we have had about non-believers seeing ‘hypocrites’ in the church. This would certainly not be Holy leadership. Leading by (good and holy) example should be my goal.
Holy Lord, you see every move I make and you know my thoughts. Help me to keep in mind how others see me, as well. Make me an instrument of your peace and love, and in that way an effective leader in and outside of the church. Amen
Romans 12:9-13
These verses speak to our personal responsibilities as Christians. This is about setting a good example for others to see and hopefully copy. It is an important feature of leadership. If we all behave in this manner, we are often being leaders without realizing it.
Prayer: Gracious God, May people always see these qualities in me. Amen

Romans 12:9-13
Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
My first thought as I read this scripture today
This could be another set of Ten Commandments
Love must be sincere
Hate what is evil, cling to what is good
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love
Honor one another above yourselves
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual…
Romans 12: 9-13
Imagine if every leader from a 12-year-old patrol leader in a Scout troop to the leaders of nations led based on these principles. This is how a redeemed world will look at Christ’s return. Part of our mission as followers of Jesus is to model that kind of leadership in our individual spheres of influence. The joy in our hope and the blessings to others of this kind of leadership can be “contagious,” what CS Lewis calls the “good infection.”
Prayer - Loving God, let my love for You and for neighbor be sincere. Guide me to hate evil and cling to good. Teach me to be devoted to others in love, honoring them above myself. Keep…
