A Daily Devotion for Thursday, April 15

Luke 24: 36b-48

verse 47: and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

I have met people who believe they no longer need to ask God for forgiveness because they have already been forgiven. This position just would not work for me. There are times I feel 100% right in my response to a situation, but later realize I was wrong or unkind. God often points this out to me. The first step in acknowledging sin is realizing I have sinned. Recognizing my sins brings me closer to God, and strengthens my relationship with Him. This is all part of repenting for me.

Father, I know I am a sinner and I have your forgiveness. But I still need to repent and make things right whenever it is possible. Thank you for forgiving me. Amen

Luke 24:36b-48 Usually I read verses before and after the verses we are given. This often opens the story up a bit. Verse 35 talks about the two who met Jesus on the road to Emmaus. They were telling their story when Jesus suddenly appeared to the group. It has always surprised me that in each of the encounters of the risen Christ, he was not recognized. This tells me that they haven’t yet believed in the resurrection. Even when they began to feel wonder and joy, they still were not sure. Jesus tells them in verse 48 that they are witnesses to the fulfillment of all that was written long ago. Although verse 32 is not included …

Asking for forgiveness is an ongoing thing for me. We all fall short throughout our lives. God is there to hear our prayer asking for forgiveness whenever we feel we may have wronged someone in thought, word or deed.

Luke 24:3-48 What would it be like if Jesus said to me, peace be with you, for me to touch his wounded hands, feet or side. Would this convince me of his profound love. He asks me for something to eat. Did I know that Jesus likes to have company at meals, rather than eat alone. Just imagine the thrill and joy I would have by preparing a meal just for me and Jesus. What would we talk about. Would this be a time when my life seemed more real than ever, would I know life in a way never known before. Would my heart open, softened, and I would be forever different. I have experienced something new being given …

Like 24:45 - “Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures,”

Unbelievers claim people of faith have abandoned reason in accepting the book of fairy tales they call Scripture. They are part of the centuries-old cult of science that exalts the human mind over the mind of God. Their mistake is in believing the Bible should be read as any other book. Just because it can does not mean that it should. The believer approaches Scripture with the humility to know they must yield to the Spirit to receive the gift of understanding what God is communicating to us in Scripture. It is the skeptic who keeps their mind closed while the believer allows their mind to be opened…

Luke 24: 36b-48

The message of Easter is such a wonderful and unbelievable story. A true story of a promise fulfilled. For the 11 Apostles to see Jesus standing in front of them must have filled them with disbelief and at the same time joy and amazement. What amazes me about the resurrection of Jesus is the love and understanding Jesus has for us. I cannot imagine the emotional state the disciples were in. I know I would have been overjoyed and amazed. I am still overjoyed and amazed that God loved us so much that he sent Jesus to us. The Resurrection was real, Jesus is real and life is good.

Dearest Lord, you gave us your son so…
