A Daily Devotion for September 22, Tuesday

Psalm 111:9 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

In order to know and fear God, I need to read scripture. If I don’t read the Word left for us by God, how can I ever begin to know Him? This has been brought home to me so clearly over the last two years. I have read scripture from time to time over the years. I have attended church, read along with assigned readings in bible studies. I always sensed my relationship with God felt closer and more genuine when I was reading the Bible more regularly. I can’t ever “know” God, but I have certainly experienced growing closer to Him. I can feel this in my heart. God’s Word is for us. It is our path to wisdom. Lord, I am so thankful for this gift from you. Amen

Psalm 111:10 Proverbs 1:7  I can’t  get wisdom out of a textbook. I do not have knowledge enough to make me wise. It is a gift which gives us the capability to make these right choices or decisions, and use them  the right way.  Wisdom  for me is  when I follow Gods teachings and obey His commands, avoid committing sins that will displease Him, stay away from behavior that will inflict harm upon myself and other people. I realize that these are good – these are right – and this is wisdom.  Experience might be one of the most valuable tools in acquiring wisdom. …

Psalm 111:9 , Proverbs 1:7

The word “fear” has proven to be a stumbling block for the modern mind. It has a negative connotation and is exploited by those hostile to faith. Those who had difficult relationships with their earthly fathers also find it an uncomfortable concept. Even some preachers ignore it preferring to dwell on “God is love.” Well, God is indeed love, but God is also a perfect judge, issuing perfect justice. If we believe this, it should make us afraid. It seems to me fear of separation from God and eternity in Hell is a good example of wisdom.

Prayer - Righteous God, knowing that I am a sinner, who falls prey to temptation fills me with…
