A Daily Devotion for September 17, Thursday

Romans 5:6-11

verse 8: But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

These verses put into words God’s ultimate act of love for us. It is so much more than we deserve. God’s love knows no bounds. However, we must accept and know Jesus.

I find so much joy and feel God’s love in nature. Even this moldy growth on tree bark is a gift to our eyes! Whenever we look closely at God’s creation we see the intricate artwork and complexity of every living and unliving bit of nature. Even all of these gifts were not enough for us, in God’s heart. He gave His only son to death for us, so we could all have eternity with Him, if we choose it.

Heavenly One, your gifts to me and to all of us are so many, and so wonderful. But the greatest gift of all was Jesus, his life and even his death. Help me to live in this love, experiencing its enormity. Amen

Someone had to come and rescue us. God loved us so much that he sent his only son ( John 3:16) Not only did Christ come at the right time he came at exactly the right time. Because God never makes mistakes i…

Romans 5:9 - “Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God.”

John Wesley often spoke about the need to “flee from the wrath to come.” The is an aspect of human relationship with God that is often ignored or even denied. God hates sin and God’s perfect justice compels its being accounted for - forgiveness or punishment. One of my professors used to be a campus evangelist and one day at Ohio State he was preaching about our need of salvation and one student laughingly asked him, “Saved from what?”

We have all sinned and fall short of God’s glory and the wages of…
