Hebrews 4:15-16
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Because Jesus was fully man, he knew what it was to walk this earth, to intereact with family, friends and authority. And we know Him as the very definition of empathic. He saw and felt what was going on in another’s life and heart. Empathy does not come naturally to everyone. But just like love, empathy can be modeled and practiced, and can result in loving actions even if it is not fully “felt”. I believe Jesus was empathic— each and every fiber of his being was in tune with what others were thinking and feeling. I pray today that my heart and my mind may spend more time dwelling on others’ needs and interests and less time on my own. May Jesus’ Spirit guide me in all of my actions and interactions today and everyday. Amen

Hebrews 4:15-16
Jesus sets a perfect example for us. He understands us, shows us perfect empathy, and we are reminded to follow his example.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the perfect example that Jesus is for us and for the gift of his empathy. Guide us to be empathetic to those who suffer with love and support. Amen.

Hebrews 4:15-16
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
I am certainly glad we have Jesus. He understands us because he was tempted in every way just as we are, but he never sinned. He was in total control of his emotions. He still understands us. His empathy is beyond human understanding. I just wish I had enough courage and faith to approach his throne of…
Hebrews 4:15-16
This passage reminds me of a conversation we had last week. I had mentioned that anyone who had done prison time was likely to be more effective and respected in prison ministry than I ever could. Human nature is such that we value the opinion of the persons who have “been there and done that.” It gives their voice more credibility. Not that God needs enhanced credibility, but to have been incarnate as the Son and going through what Jesus endured is the ultimate in empathy and should make us heed every word that comes from God.
Prayer - Thank You, Lord for the journey as a human that You took to rescue us from our fallen nature.…
