Philippians 4:13
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
When I first read this passage I thought of superpowers to do anything and everything. But reading the passage in context I see Paul is speaking about the power and the courage to endure. He had been through so much and suffered so much, but had the Holy Spirit giving him all the courage he needed. We have access to that same Spirit 24/7. Sometimes God provides without our even asking, sometimes we must remember to ask.
Holy Father, Today I ask you to provide me the courage, the patience and the humility to serve. Amen

When Paul says all things, he doesn’t mean I can go outside and leap tall buildings with a single bound. . Paul says I can do all things in Christ, that means if it is the will of Christ in my/our life. . Whatever Christ has for you/me to do, He will supply the courage. This verse is but one of many in Philippians where Paul is teaching us to rely on the Holy Spirit within us to give us strength to endure the tough times. Paul had learned not to rely on material things. He focused his life and what he wanted to accomplish, not on what his personal needs were. In our culture today, we seem to focus on acquiring things as our primary goal. We are all sometimes guilty of this. This life we live puts a lot of obstacles in our way. If I put a lot of credence in earthly things, I will find that I am always on an emotional roller coaster. If I can find that same joy in Christ, this is by far the better option. Believing in Jesus gives me the courage to face all that life sends me. Jesus gives me peace.

The strength that Jesus gives me is not physical but a strength of conviction, of what is right and what is wrong. It seems so simple. Everyone should know the difference between right and wrong, but it is obvious if you know what is going on around us, that we need Jesus to give us the courage to make the right choices.
Dear Lord thank you for being in my life. Please strengthen the Holy Spirit in our leaders who make a show of attending church and then forgetting your teachings the rest of the week. Amen.

Paul’s unbending faith was his source of courage. I sometimes wonder if my well of faith is deep enough to draw from in times of crisis. As I try to stay in the Word and prayer as a daily discipline, these are the exercises that will strengthen my faith. When the fearful times come I trust my words will be those of Paul.
Prayer - Lord, grace me with a measure of faith so strong and so certain that I know deep in my heart I have the courage to face whatever attack the enemy has in store. Amen
