A Daily Devotion for Monday, June 13

Philippians 1: 9-11

And this is my prayer; that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ- to the glory and praise of God.

These verses don’t so much instruct us as encourage us to keep learning, keep walking toward God. Along the way, in our relationship with Him, we will learn and gather wisdom. I am understanding discernment to be a sort of by-product of my relationship with God. I can never pretend or even hope to understand God’s will, but God’s will for me does seem clearer as I improve my relationship with Him.

Holy One, I am thankful for your willingness to grant us wisdom. We long to understand you, to be fully in relationship with you. Amen

Philippians 1: 9-11

I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters. That you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.May you always be filled with the fruit of righteous that comes through Jesus Christ. this will bring much glory and praise to God.

Paul’s prayer is that all believers would be filled with the fruit of righteousness, that which helps us to develop a right relationship with God, who helps and guides us to recognize our sinful nature and be freed from them. The fruit of the Spirit…

Understanding God’s love for me, no matter how much I may disappoint Him, is difficult for me to understand. God gave Paul that ability to love no matter what trials and tribulations he endured. To be able to love in this manner is difficult for me, and yet worth pursuing. I feel that this love that Paul prayed for…

Philippians 1: 9-11

Paul challenges the worldly view of the acquisition of knowledge and depth of insight. Their function is not to dominate others or as a mark of superiority. These things should serve as the pathway to share love, and all things best, pure and blameless. This fruit of righteousness is how knowledge and depth of insight are to be used by Christians, and in all these things, we give glory to God.

Prayer - Lord of learning, let all that I continue to learn be used solely to let love abound and improve the bitter circumstances of those who do not know You. Amen
