Hebrews 12:7
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?
I do not believe that God sends painful “lessons” to us as punishment. I do believe God can use the uncomfortable, painful and even heartbreaking events that occur in our lives as opportunities to teach us and help us to grow, or even simply to encourage us to turn to Him and grow closer. God provides comfort and love through our trials. I suppose this is like discipline, but more like loving parenting and comfort.
Holy Lord, you are with me, no matter what. I never need be alone. Your grace is beyond imagining, and I am thankful. Amen

Hebrews 12:7
I have never believe that God caused any of the difficult things that have happened to me. I do, however, turn to him first for reassurance. If discipline is love, then yes, Jesus loves me and helps me endure all situations.
Prayer: Gracious God, As a parent, I know that to discipline a child is to love them. As a child of God, I understand the same thing. AMEN
Hebrews 12:7
While I would never quote this to someone in the midst of hardship, I can see the value of the lesson the author is trying to impart. Immersed in the struggle one might not appreciate the difference between punishment and discipline—and they are different. The former is strictly punitive while the latter is guidance and correction. One is meted in revenge, the other in love. Both may entail physical or emotional pain, but the lessons of discipline transcend the pain and make us stronger, wiser and more compassionate.
Prayer - Lord of discipline, help me understand when hardship may represent Your guiding hand steering me back to the path You have chosen for me. Without Your discipline I…
