A Daily Devotion for Monday, December 26

Hebrews 13:7

Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

When I was at home with my parents, we were members of a large Methodist church in the next town over, where my parents grew up. My dad had gone to that church as a child. While I was growing up we had the same pastor, the whole time I lived at home! He was kind and friendly, but I often felt I was not living up to my potential as a Christian. I think that is partly my personality, but sometimes his sermons made me feel kind of lousy. But I know he was a good man, who gave his entire life to God, to lead and to teach. I never doubted his honesty or truthfulness. My parents stayed in touch with him for many years after he retired. He was a good man.

Father God, I am thankful for those you have put in my path to help me to learn and grow as a Christian. You never stop putting people in my life who can help me along, and I am grateful. I am most grateful for your Son, my Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen

Even with five children of their own, they had an open door policy for young people who needed not just a warm home, but one filled with a warm and loving family. They were extraordinary people and I have tried to follow their example in my own way with my own gifts. Prayer: gracious God, may we all pay attention to those around us who se…

Hebrews 13:7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

I have had many leaders in my life who spoke the word of God to me. When I think of their faith I think mostly about my current leader, Father Colin. He freely speaks of his doubts and struggles and yet I believe he has a strong faith. I think he is using this as a way to help us realize that doubts are good if they lead to better understanding.

Dear Lord, thank you for exposing me to different ways of coming to understand how to live in the world that I was born…

This verse tells me first to always respect our Christians leaders. This respect is necessary for learning. It also tells me to remember the Spiritual leaders in my life that inspired me to become a better Christian. I feel that in my life God sent me people who inspired me to be a better Christian. These leaders included Pastor Gil, Pastor Jen and Father Colin Chapman.
