A Daily Devotion for Monday, August 26

John 1:16

Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.

This verse speaks to the abundance of God’s grace. We already were the recipients of God’s grace just being given life. But when Jesus was sent to us, that grace was multiplied because He saved us— and we never deserved to be saved! I copied the sentence below from one of the online commentary sites (Got Questions). It is a nice, concise statement that helped me to understand our need for God’s grace.

“The law emphasized God’s divine standards and the inability of fallen mankind to meet them, while grace rescues fallen humanity from deserved punishment. “

Holy Lord, thank you for Jesus, and thank you for your boundless grace. A life with Jesus is a life full of grace, and I am thankful. Amen

As I  walk with God, I begin to understand that everything I have, and everything I am is a result of His…

John 1:16

John writes of grace upon grace. It is often said Scripture proves Scripture. The references to God’s abundant, inexhaustible grace are all over the pages of God’s Word. One of my favorites is Luke 6:38 - “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

We cannot ever “outgive” God, whose grace and capacity for forgiveness are scandalously infinite. The only thing God needs to open the spigot to never-deleted living water is an open and repentant heart, a commodity becoming ever more scarce in the postmodern world.

Prayer - God…
