A Daily Devotion for Friday, September 6

Mark 8:36-38

“What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

We CANNOT allow the world, or anyone in the world, to make us feel ashamed of following Christ. Following Christ is what we know it to be, not what others think they know it to be. Following Christ makes us better people, more tolerant and more loving, not the opposite. Following Christ does not include being judgmental or critical. It does not include keeping people out or holding back our hospitality. Those behaviors are sinful and if we find ourselves involved in them, we must stop and ask for forgiveness. These verses are so important for me to internalize. There is no shame involved in doing the right thing, ever.

Holy Lord, help me to stay on track. Amen

For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

Sadly people really don't even think about their soul in this 21st century. So why do most people say they don't believe in God, they don’t trust religion. Why do so many people pursue so many things in this world, that they think are so important. Why …

Mark 8:36-38

Jesus makes the consequence of using a profession of faith as an “insurance policy” starkly clear. To claim belief in Jesus yet being ashamed of His gospel and failing to declare it in the way one lives is to invite rejection by God. Now, Jesus did not say all believers must live the life of Billy Graham. CS Lewis frames the issue nicely in The Weight of Glory: “All our merely natural activities will be accepted if they are offered to God, even the humblest, and all of them, even the noblest, will be sinful if they are not.”

Prayer - Lord Jesus, may Your gospel of hope and eternal life be reflected in my speech and actions.…
