I Corinthians 9:24-27
Verses 24-25: Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
These verses remind me of that old saying, “It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.” We can’t all win first place in everything. But God isn’t looking at that. I believe he is looking at our effort. A couple of weeks ago watching a baseball game on TV I heard the announcer say, “It doesn’t take any talent to hustle.” That has stuck with me, too. It is all about our effort. We have no control over the rest. Even our transformation comes from God, not from our own hard work. God changes us.
Heavenly Father, change my heart. I have not given up the race. I will hustle, and will try my hardest. I will not win any earthly prizes, but I run the race for eternity with you. Amen

1 Corinthians 9:26 - “So I do not run aimlessly, nor do I box as though beating the air;”
These athletic metaphors speak to me of having a purpose, knowing what it is and focusing one’s energies on achieving it. King Solomon wrote, “There is a time for every purpose under heaven.” By the same token God has a purpose for each of us and the role we play in this life. Some never discover it. Others run from it. Contentment on this side of heaven comes in finding it, living it and sharing it with others.
Prayer - God of purpose, enable me to live out the purpose You have designed uniquely for me each and every day so…
1 Corinthians 9: 24-27
I believe that Paul’s personal discipline especially the discipline of his body, is one of the reasons he was able to fulfill God’s plan for him. (1 Corinthians 9:27)( I should be wise to this advise.) I know my own limits and I would never reach the goal of winning any Race. I understand that entering a race does not mean you have to win. Each runner has his own style. To me this means I have to be myself and not to copy someone else. I will follow God .. He leads us all individually. He has created each of us uniquely different and he does not lead everyone the same way. The only race…
Thanks, David!! 😃
THANK YOU BECKY.
I look forward to reading your thoughts every day, however today really stuck a note with me. If you can get inspiration from a baseball commentator then I will have to be more ready to benefit from what goes on around me.
