A Daily Devotion for Friday, September 18

Colossians 1:15-23

verses 21-22: Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation-

I have wondered at times what God really thinks of me. Usually it is when I am ashamed of myself for being selfish or short-tempered or thoughtless in some way. And at those times I feel apart from God, as if I am not good enough for Him to love me. These verses remind me of the true nature of God’s love for me. God does not push us away from him when we sin. We push ourselves away, but in our own minds. God is still there, loving us. He wants us by his side, and in fact is there waiting for us to turn to him again.

Holy Lord, thank-you for loving me and for forgiving me over and over again. I am not deserving, but I am yours, and so I thankfully receive your blessings and your love. Amen

20200917 Thu, Daily Devotion - Colossians 1:20

[Colossians 1:20, NLT] and through Him, God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ's blood on the cross.

This verse lets us know God’s way of reconciliation with everything in heaven and on earth. For a second, I come to a moment of thinking “is it possible?” but when God said so, He did so. His way is through HIM, Jesus Christ. He said He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. His method of reconciliation is simple which is through the blood of Christ Jesus. Anyone who comes to God through…

Colossians 1: 15-18 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might have supremacy  As I was reading this passage (Col 1: 15-20) I thought "Wow! This is quite the job description: 'Must conform to God's image; responsible for the creation of all things, heaven and earth, visible and invisible…

Colossians 1:23d - “I, Paul, became a servant of this gospel.”

Paul sums up discipleship in six words. Only by putting oneself aside and embracing not only the Good News, but the life that it implies, can we be transformed in the way God intends. The gospel sets us free to be servants - a joyful paradox leading to eternal life.

Prayer - Father, Son, Holy Spirit, keep me under the transformative influence of You love. May it be clear to those who cross my path that I am a servant of the Gospel. Amen
