Judges 10:14

Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble.

Yikes! We know how this turns out. God is here for us, no matter what. Money, prestige, creature comforts- they are all temporary niceties, which are subject to all kinds of changes. If we put too much faith in them, or count on them to bring us happiness, we will be disappointed. God is the one we turn to, the one who is always here for us.

Holy Lord, you are so forgiving and so understanding. It must look pretty silly to you when you see us get wrapped up in all kinds of unimportant and superficial things. Help me to not lose sight of you, ever. Amen

Judges 10:14

Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.

In a shocking statement, God has flatly refused to save Israel again. He now sarcastically tells the people to ask their false gods for help. This is a brutal comment from God because of Israel's sin. WOW It is possible to sin against the grace of God to the point where God is through with us; that's it. So, the children of Israel said unto the LORD, we have sinned: So God has a soft touch I guess and the people did the right thing and God went ahead to deliver them onc…

Judges 10:14 Wow! What a scolding from God. What did they expect? He had saved them again and again and now they were worshiping idols that had no power to help them. Thank goodness they heard the warning. They cleaned up their act, so to speak, and begin again to worship only God. And through this verse, we see that God can rescue us again and again if we listen and ask for his help. Prayer: gracious God, I hope you never have to scold me from turning away from you, but if I do, I know you will take me back. It’s what you do for me. Amen

I think that the fact that Jesus was born, died, and lived again, is the reason that I know God hears us. Our Christianity is unique in that. Any rational person would know that an idol would never respond to a cry for help. The people of this time did not have Jesus to show them the way, so they had to rely on prophets, and belief in a God who listens would take more faith than it does for us.

Dear Lord, thank you for sending Jesus to us. I don’t know if my faith would be as…

Judges 10:14 Be careful what you ask for! As it says elsewhere in Scriptire, “God will not be mocked.“ This episode represents a historical low point for God’s chosen people. Parents can relate at some level to God’s exasperation with the ongoing disobedience of the people. Yet despite their waywardness, God continued to restore them. We are heirs of this steadfast love and must keep watch over our tendency to worship other gods.

Prayer - Merciful God, may I never place anything above You in importance in my life. Keep me fre from idle idol worship. Amen

God is being sarcastic here, something I did not expect of God, but I can understand His frustration. I worship one God and one God alone. This is the faith I was brought up in and continue to this day. God is always there for me; I just have to ask for his help.

Dearest Lord, I thank you for always being there for me. I am yours to use as you will. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
