1John 5:13-21
verse 20: We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding , so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true-even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
Sometimes I don’t want to be the first one to post a reflection in the morning! Today’s verses seem filled with confusing messages for me. There are times I feel I would enjoy studying the Bible the way Tom has been studying. I think I would be overwhelmed rather than enlightened, though. I have the foundation I need, but could learn more, for sure. Today I am leaning on that foundation, knowing that by accepting Christ, I have gained eternal life.
Lord, I pray that I understand enough. Help me to know what I need to know. I do want to learn more about you. Amen

1 John 5:13-18(verses 14-15) We know God hears our prayers, we know Jesus protects us from sin and from the evil one, and finally, we know Jesus is the true God and in Him we have eternal life. A prayer is in accord with the will of God when it’s in Scripture. a prayer is in accord with the will of God when it’s prompted by the Holy Spirit. If we have the confidence that God hears us, then naturally we also have the confidence that we already have what we asked for.. God reveals his will to us, and we pray about it, it’s as good as done. This is our confidence. We will misunderstand this verse when we interpr…
1 John 5: 13-21
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
I read this verse and I think I am beginning to understand its meaning. At first I felt it meant that I could ask God for help and I would always get the outcome I was hoping for. I now feel that having this confidence in God through my relationship with Jesus tells me that I should live differently from the rest of the world and not just expect immediate results to my request of God. My faith in Jesus gives me direct access to God, and as such, I know that God he…
1 John 5:19 - “We know that we are God’s children, and that the whole world lies under the power of the evil one.”
We may be God’s children, but our God-given free will allows us the choice to be adopted by Satan. He distracts us with idols against which we are weak and vulnerable without the whole armor of God that Paul describes in his letter to the Ephesians. My “re” word for today then, is resist. If we resist the evil one in Jesus’ name, he will flee.
Prayer - God of truth, fit me snugly in Your armor as the evil one of this world stalks like a lion to devour its prey. Give me the power…
20210108 Friday, Daily Devotion - 1 John 5:13 (NIV)
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
John stated the purpose of his writing is to believe in the name of the Son of God so that all of us know that we have eternal life. I reaffirmed the purpose of my life is to serve others to believe in the name of the Son of God so that they know that they have eternal life through their faith in Jesus Christ. I should make myself available for everything I can do for others' salvation through the faith in Jesus Christ.
