A Daily Devotion for Friday, February 19

Matthew 17:14-20

verses 19-20: Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ’Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

What can I take from this lesson? The disciples were given special specific powers to heal. What power have I been given? God doesn’t always let me know where my actions lead. God is the one who provides the increase, and the change. So, what is my power, and how does my faith affect that power? I don’t think I am to know. I am only to have faith God is with me, and allows His Spirit to work through me. If I don’t believe, I won’t be a part of the healing.

Holy Father, help me. Your Spirit lives in me, and I have the power to let others see you living in me. Help me to have faith. You are the power, and you have allowed me to be part of the process. I am so thankful, and will try to be worthy of this. Amen

Becky, transforming

Barbara: I loved your line, bury myself like the mustard seed in the soil of God’s word. What a very powerful image!

Matthew 17: 14-20

If the poor father had not approached Jesus – the boy would not have been cured. The man’s prayer is simple and desperate: Lord, have mercy on my son . I sure wish I could cure the people I love, but I know I can’t . Not surprising that Jesus got frustrated with the people and his disciples for their weak lack of faith. It is the power of God not my faith that moves mountains, but faith must be present to do so. Jesus has no doubt that if I have enough faith I can do at least one thing. I can bring the sick person to the Lord in prayer and ask him …

Matthew 17:17 - “Jesus answered, ‘You faithless and perverse generation, how much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I put up with you?’”

What to do with something like this? These words echo in my brain when I pray for something only to see nothing change. This issue of the efficacy of faith has been misused for a long time. I will never forget what happened to my aunt Bessie, a sweeter person never lived, stricken with pancreatic cancer that would take her life in less than a year. Shortly after her diagnosis she was told that her disease was because of a lack of faith and some unspoken sin in her life. This “friend” gave…

2021-0219 Thursday, Daily Devotion - Matthew 17:14-20

Matthew 17:19-21 (NIV)

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”

20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

The disciples came to Jesus in private and asked why they could not drive out the demons. Looking at they came to Jesus In Private, they had a deep concern why they couldn’t because they thought Jesus gave them power already. Jesus’ answer to their question was they had…

Matthew 17: 14-20

I feel I have faith. But there have been times that I doubt. And that is a lack of faith. This lack of faith is simply not trusting God, or believing that he is in charge of my life. I will hear and believe in the Word of God and use this to grow my faith. I need to bury myself like the mustard seed in the soil of God’s word, so that…
