1 Timothy 6: 9-10
Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Money can only buy us things of this world. Earning more and more money just for one’s self and for one’s own comfort and pleasure will not bring a person closer to God. But there are other ways to be ambitious: working hard for others, working hard to earn money which will be given to a good cause, doing our best when serving God and serving others. Ambition can involve generosity and mercy. When our ambition aligns with God’s will, we will move forward.
Holy Lord, help me to see when my ambition is not in accordance with your will. I need your continual guidance. Amen

1 Timothy 6:9-10
This verse contains one of the most misquoted lines in the Bible. It is not money that is the root of all evils, but the LOVE of money. When you love money and all it brings to you, gaining more and more becomes your goal—your ambition. In the previous verses, Paul speaks of being content with having our basic needs met, food, clothing, and shelter. He says nothing about mansions, designer clothing, and an over abundance of food. We, and I include myself, often forget this and work toward acquiring more and more things. Contentment does not come with things.
Prayer: Gracious God, Thank you for this reminder that my ambition should be directed toward loving yo…

1 Timothy 6:9-10
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
Do I want more because I am not satisfied with what I have. Do I look at what others have , what I could have or what is missing and do I feel that I do not have enough. Do I continually crave for more and more. Money itself is neither good nor evil. It’s simply a means…
1 Timothy 6: 9-10
An exchange currency of one type or another has been part of the human story going back to ancient times. Jesus demonstrated proper priorities using a Roman coin embossed with the likeness of Cesar. Pursuing riches for riches sake without any thought of God is certainly doable and can led to luxury beyond measure and more money than one could spend in three lifetimes. At the end of life, however, all this ambition is wasted. Preferring a few decades of vast riches to eternity with God seems a foolish choice. Love of money may get us a Ferrari and a villa on the Riviera, but it will not save us from death or, if we are…
