A Daily Devotion for August 31, Monday

Isaiah 43:18-20

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! “

No matter how imperfect my walk with Christ, I am already changed. I have changed for the better. There is no limit to how much better I can become. I can get closer and closer to Jesus, be more and more a mirror of Christ’s love to others. We should never feel defeated if our progress is slow. God sees in our hearts, and knows we truly seek Him and we seek to do His will.

God of all people and of all things, help me. Help me to grow closer to you every day- to turn to you instinctively when I am unsure or in need. Help me to fully realize this new creation. Amen

Both Scripture readings introduce transformation into our ongoing conversation about the church. Nicodemus misunderstood when Jesus told him he must be born from above, but Christians understand this to mean a transformed heart. Sitting in church for an hour a week does not make me a Christian any more than sitting in my garage for an hour a week will make me a mechanic. Both take study, hard work and experience. Only one transformation, however, leads to eternal life.

Prayer - God of transformed hearts, fill me with Your Spirit and lead me in Your ways. Let me be for others a guide along the pathway to a changed heart; a heart in love with Jesus Christ. Amen

2 Corinthians 5: 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation , the old has gone, the new has come The new me looks the same on the outside  (sadly more) but I am brand new on the inside. The Holy Spirit has given me new life and I am not the same any more. I have not been rehabilitated or re-educated but recreated living in  a new relationship with God. I am not merely turning over a new leaf but a new life with

the direction of my God. I look forward to all that is in store. What goals I would like to take place, how would  I like to grow, and what would I like t…
